OVER 600 MARATHON RUNNERS TO ARRIVE IN SOUTH WEST DONEGAL THIS WEEKEND FOR THE FIRST EVER MAGEE 1866 DONEGAL WILD ATLANTIC MARATHON.

This Sunday July 8th will see people flocking into Killybegs from all over the world & running / walking the stunning South Donegal Wild Atlantic Coastline as far as the stunning Glencolmcille Village in the very first Marathon & Half Marathon that this part of the world has ever hosted.

Race Director Eunan Quinn is super excited & pleased to announce that everything has been put in place & he is so grateful to the people of Killybegs & the surrounding areas for their support & sponsorship for the event. “There’s not a bed to be had in this part of the world this weekend, and thats testament to the people who are coming from all over the world & have this marathon booked since I first announced it”, says Eunan.

“I would like to thank my sponsors, Magee 1866 and their team for all their support, Kelly’s Toyota, The Ballyshannon & Killybegs Credit Union, Niamh Kennedy, The Glencolmcille Village, The Bayview Hotel, Killybegs, The Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town, The Marshalls, Swan Net Gundry, my own family & friends and absolutely everyone who has come on board to help me out to ensure our first year is a huge success.”

Race Pack collection will take place from 2-6pm in the Bayview Hotel, Killybegs for those who can make it and due to the expected warm weather the marathon & marathon relay will now start an hour earlier at 7am. The Half Marathon will start at 9am. There will be extra water and sponge stations on the course and all traffic restrictions / schedules are also moved forward an hour. Everything remains the same for race day except an hour earlier.

Parking in Killybegs for Marathon and Relay Marathon participants. There will be an early start of 6.30 am for slower runners / walkers who want to start earlier. Race pack collection will be available on sunday morning from 5.45 – 6.30 in the Bay View Hotel, Kilyybegs and a shuttle bus will be available back to Killybegs from Glencolmcille for those who need it after race.

All Marathon & Marathon Relay runners must check in. Runners can get bus to legs 2,3,4, or driven by team member (leg 4) to Kilcar (leg2) Carrick (leg 3). Last runner parks in Glencolmcille (finish area), then bused to Leg 4 start (recommended for relay teams). The Bus will pick runners up from finished legs, and take them to the finish. The Bus will take runners back to Killybegs after finish if required.

Official start time for the Half Marathon is 9am (1 mile Glen side of Carrick). The Race pack collection available on morning at Glencolmcille GAA club house from 8 – 9. (finish area). Parking is at Glencolmcille GAA club grounds. (25 mins from KIllybegs). All cars must be through Killybegs by 6am as Road will be Closed from 7 – 8 for Marathon runners exiting Killybegs going to Glen. Buses will take runners to half start. 7.30 – 8.30 – at GAA ground. Be aware at half start that faster Marathon runners are coming through beside half start.

Showers are available at GAA club in Glencolmbcille after event. Refreshments will be served at finish line and BBQ food at GAA club. There will be an after party in Glencolmcille at Glen Head Tavern (400m from Gaa club) and also an after party in Killybegs at 8pm in Bayview hotel. Shuttle bus to leave from Glen head tavern back to Killybegs for marathon runners.
